I had it tested at a local A/C repair shop (that my dad is friends with) But I don't think that they really looked at it... They told me that I needed a new compressor, and its around $900.00 to fix!!! Does this seem a little high to anybody else, I have had a compressor replace before (in different cars) and it has never cost me more that $500.00. I don't want to get ripped of because I am a young woman, and live in a small town (we only have the one A/C shop hear!)

What do you suggest I do???

Thanks in advance!!! ;)

Sounds like he saw you coming! being the only ac shop in town, may be makes him think you can't do with out him. Shop around. And ask about a re-manufactured compressor. It's you're money.

I'd suggest you get a second opinion from another shop.

It sounds fairly realistic. I was quoted 700 bucks for the compressor on my T-bird.

On your car, the compressor itself is about 500 dollars (which is a damned lot for a compressor, jeez), and you're probably getting charged slightly more by the shop. Depending on the compressor's placement in the car and what engine you have, replacing it could be quite a bit of work. Also consider the coolant is going to have to be drained and replaced.

It might be a LITTLE high, but if it is, it isn't by much.

Also, maybe you'll be a little more careful in your future vehicle selections.

I would say that it would be the freon and if that's not it then u most likely need to buy a new compressor, and i would also agree with the person below about go in to another a/c place and or take someone you know that knows about cars to see if there do in there job right.

Seems a little high. I would either buy one from a parts store and have a friend replace it, or go to another town and get another price quote.

try having your system charged with freon first, too new to have to replace a compressor

Have it tested with dye first, this will pinpoint the source of your leak and then that's the part you replace.

I would go to another garage and get their opinion because it may simply need to be gassed up.
