The first one is about being pursued by godzilla (seriously) through a city environment, he never quite gets me but always is on my heals... The other one is I'm protecting my family from hordes of zombies... I am a big godzilla & zombie fan and read alot and watch movies about both. Is it just my over active imagination or is there more to it

It could be your overactive imagination, but there could also be a deeper, subconscious message in it. Sometimes these messages take on the forms of familiar things.

These messages could be anything from your subconscious telling you to hurry up and get something done or something (insecurities, etc.) could be bothering you or "chasing" you. It could mean that you feel responsible for your family's well being and that you need to protect them.

It could also just as easily mean you watch too much godzilla lol.

Good luck :)

Godzilla actually represents a giant or huge issue in your life that you are afraid of and feel that you are trying to escape from. As for the other dream, about the hordes of zombies. This is just your subconscious way of projecting your desire to be outstanding in your family by protecting them. Even though you watch Godzilla and zombie movies your subconscious minds will use your understanding of such things to equate them to things everyday problems in your life. For example, Godzilla is big and powerful, so your mind will equate problems in your life that you feel are just as big and powerful as Godzilla.

According to Dreamcrowd:

To see Godzilla in your dream, signifies feelings of being out of control and that your situation is getting the best of you.

I thnk you have watched too many of these films so not only are they on your mind you are slightly anxious as well. I suggest yu have a rest from horror film and try something calming or that gives you a feeling of wellbeing for a while.
