I'm talking really depressed. I used to not get along with them and I also used to have depression at one point when I lived with them. Now everything's fine and I don't live there but I visit once a week and spend the night. What's going on?

I think you feel depressed because the depression you used to feel when you lived with them comes back to you and you feel trapped whenever you go back there and i feel like you need to deal with the past and realize that these ppl. love and don't feel like u r forced to go to their house just do it out of love

Its most likely because you have unresolved issues with your parents, or they do things that trigger old emotional scars.

However, you could also be allergic to something in their house.

Do you get just as depressed if you're only there for a few hours? Or if you talk to them on the phone?

If not, then next time you visit.. before bedtime, take 2 benadryl. If you wake up still really depressed, then maybe you need to do some soul searching to figure out what issues still need to be healed.

You didn't give alot of details but its probably because they are negative and abusive. I cant visit mine either. They probably use a covert tactic where they point out a flaw in everything you do-for example, your exercise rountine-you play golf, their response-"Thats not Aerobic". They pick apart everything you do. You have an idea- their response- "That will never work thats flawed thinking"-means your crazy without saying it. Parents can destroy their kids without using words like -stupid. If they talk like this they are sick monsters stay away and dont ever go back and tell them you wont go back also. PS- don't ever take money or pills from an abuser.

Because your brain remembers the emotional pain you felt there last time & won't let you forget either.

If it is too unpleasant for you maybe you should suggest that you meet them out for dinner instead of the weekly visits to them & don't sleep over - you aren't doing yourself any favours.

Hard to say since you missed to provide further information about your past relationship with your parents. Were they violent? Boring? Uneducated? Drunks?

We just don't know and so no one will ever send you appropriate answers and solutions.

When you see them you also see their behavior patterns that can be upsetting you.
You are reminded of how it felt and how it still feels to see them.
Also, they are getting older and this can be sad to see.
This is what happens to me when I visit my parents.
