The mind is what we think with, what we make decisions with so to speak and the soul is the one thing that is eternal with a person. It is the only thing that will last after everything else has passed. The soul the it thing that reaps the benefits of Heaven should that person die in Christ and the consequences of hell should that person die out of Christ. Everyone has a soul.

The mind is the leading part of the soul.
Man is basically made up of three parts. The Body with the five senses, the Soul made up of the Mind, Will and Emotions ( invisible part of a man) and the third part is the most mysterious.. the human spirit which has three functions.. the Conscience.. Fellowship and Intuition.

Each part of man's soul uses the faculties of the Human body to carry out what it desires. The mind , will and emotions of the soul uses the faculty of the human brain.
Whereever the mind sets itself.. our will and emtion will follow. The mind because it is the leading faculty of the soul is the part that God desires to Renew through the Word of God. We are transformed by the renewing of our mind. Day by day this should be something that we come into the Lord's presence to have done for us. This verse in Romans shows this matter strongly 8:6
"For the mind set on the flesh is death but the mind set on the spirit is life and peace"

Namaste Brother,

The mind is a part of the soul. The soul is a subtle point of indistructable energy and has 3 subtle ortans: the mind, the intellect and the sanskars(or personality).
The mind creates or receives thoughts and feelings (the feelings are powerfull thoughts that we experience practically).
The intellect is supposed to judge the thoughts and based on knowledge of wrong and right to accept them and put them in action or to reject them.
The sanskaras are the traits of soul's personality and they are created according to the actions that the soul performs while in the body. As are the sanskars of a soul so are the type of thoughts that arise or that are accepted in the mind.
The type sanskars is the main thing that makes the difference between us all the 6 - 7 billions of souls. The best sanskars are those of God.

Just note that thinking is also an action as it does influence the matter since thought waves are proved by machines.

So up to here it is clear that the sou means YOU and the mind means something that is YOURS. That is why they say that you - the soul are different than the mind.

After thinking for a few minutes, I can't tell you that there is any difference. No one knows where the soul resides. We only use a small part of our brain, perhaps this is why. It makes sense that it's in our brain and used throughout our body just as our brain is. They sure use brain dead as the definition of dead. So why not? I suspect no one else has an answer for you either.

The mind exists in the form of the brain. The soul is a nonexistent human construct.

The mind dies when the electrical impulses of the brain end. The soul survives beyond an earthly body.

Let me quote from 'The Mother' by Sri Aurobindo--".....Follow your soul and not your mind, your soul that answers to the Truth, not your mind that leaps at appearances;trust the Divine power and she will free the godlike elements in you and shape all into an expression of Divine Nature".

Mind is a garbage bin of man, full of rubbish, soul is the divine seat, the true entity and identity of man. It would take many lifetimes to empty the self perpetuating garbage generated by the mind. Soul remains unsullied, pure and a divine spark in man.
