I am a Food and Beverage Specialist so allow me to answer this.

Whisky is the term used for authentic Scotch, Canadian and other whiskies distilled all over the World except US and Ireland.

Whiskey is the term used for Irish and US preparations (Bourbon and Jack Daniels). Plural Whiskeys.

The base product for distillation of any whisky is Barley. It can be used in malted (sprouted) form or mixture of Grain and Malt mash. Even Corn whiskey or rye whisky contain barley, but in minor proportion.

The concept of whisky distillation is based upon converting the sugar of cereal grains into alcohal.

Brandy is a different concept. It is conversion of fruit sugars into alcohal through process of fermentation and distillation. Brandy, the finer categories include, Cognac and Armagnac, convert fermented grape juice, ie wine, into spirit through distillation. Every wine producing region would have some sort of brandy being produced.

Brandies are also produced from other fruits too. Calvados is a popular apple brandy, peach brandy, Kirsch is a cherry brandy. There are numerous fruit brandies.

Brandy is made from grapes, whiskey from grain. From barley, I think.
Both will give you a dreadful hangover if you take too much.

though whisky is a distilled "beer" and brandy is distilled "wine" the reality in India seems different! with a neutral alcohol obtained from molasses from sugar cane etc they simply add aromatic extracts either natural or artificial. that's our distilleries too! seeing the facilities of most them they are literally inventing drinks!
