BTW, I'm a pagan too and am just curious to find out how many differing views there are about this amongst pagans of different paths

i believe that it depends on your religion and your beliefs.

for me (Celtic Pagan.) i believe that the soul has a time of rest and reflection. to study the lessons of the previous life. and to compare them with the lessons of the other lives that it has lived.

the soul comes back to live many lives and to learn and experience as many things as possible.

eventually it will join with our ancestors and take a place of council among the gods. that is to say a place of infinite knowlege and understanding. and gain the ability to contact and help mortals with their spiritual paths.

however this is just my path. as i am a teacher in life so i shall be in death. for someone who was a protector they may take the mantle of a guardian angel or spirit. i believe that our lives are connected. and that our afterlife is somewhat of our owm making.

I believe after we die we go to a place where we can go over all the things that happened in our life. We then see what we needed to learn and were successful doing so. Then we see what we needed to learn but didn't. We make decisions about our next life with other souls. We make decisions about all the who's and what's that we need to happen. I believe that a lot is left open for us to experience if we chose. I don't believe that we chose every little thing that wil happen to us. Then when we are ready we are born again.

At a point when we've achieved all that we need to then we will rejoin with Spirit and become one.

Fam Trad Pagan here.

I believe when we die, we are reincarnated. It isn't immediate. Our soul rests in Summerland for who knows how long before reincarnating again. When our soul has learned sufficiently, it joins the mass of souls, the Great Spirit.

I believe the parts of the personality anchored to physical body experience mostly dissolve rapidly. The stronger emotions hang on and act as a 'direction finder' for the next life experience.

Some pagans talk of the "Summer-lands", Some talk of reincarnation, while others speak of a combination of both.

I believe we'll find _when_ we cross the veil.

Questions from self labeled "pagans" are always a strange thing as a pagan is someone that believes differently than your religion so you are saying that you believe differently than your religion...

Good luck with your question. From my point of view, there is no evidence of any deity or spirit world so we like all other creatures simply return to the components that we were made from.

In my Eclectic opinion, three things can happen when a life ends a.k.a. death, be it of human, buttefly, tiger, rose, oak, fairy, unicorn, etc.
One, the soul can go on to join a "pool" of other souls in Heaven/Summerland/Nirvana/call it what you will to stay with Godd for eternity or to wait to be reused a.k.a. reincarnated.
Two, if Godd and/or karma dictates, the soul will be reincarnated back on earth to live another life as a new life form, be it human, butterfly, tiger, rose, oak, fairy, unicorn, etc. to hopefully live a better life learning from the past striving to make the world perfect without stopping first in Heaven/Summerland/Nirvana/call it what you will.
Third, the soul stays on earth as a ghost to tie up loose threads, finish projects, etc. before it moves on to Heaven/Summerland/Nirvana/call it what you will or to be reincarnated.

i believe that the body will decay and return to the earth. i believe my energy will fade back into the energy of the universe and eventually return to the source from whence it came. bits and peices will come back in this and that, but i don't believe that i wll ever return as a whole.
