My daughter is 3...in the UK that means that she starts nursery school in Jan. and full time school in September 08. We may travel to Australia when she's 5 or 6 and stay for a year or two and I may homeschool her while we are there and then re-enrol her at her own school when we return to the UK. My question is, do you think this is a good idea? I thought that homeschooling would be less disruptive than a new school and new kids...she would be returning to the same place she left in the uK and the same kids.Do your kids enjoy homeschooling? Have they got a lot out of it? What are the disadvantages? Thanks everyone!

We have homeschooled for years now. We'll never go back to system. My kids love it because of the freedom that it offers.

There is a lot of great curriculum out there and for younger kids it's even more fun.

Try looking at www.fiveinarow.com You can read books together and do some wonderful projects - it's so much fun!!

At that young age there are no real disadvantages because it doesn't take long and it's a lot of fun. When they get older the only disadvantage is the fact that it does take time on the parents part. Even with that I love it!

After homeschooling a year or two, you may find that you love it so much you don't want to bother with a school when you get back. :)

I homeschool my children. We love it. There are so many options available out there. At this young of an age it is very simple and can be very affordable to homeschool. Lots of learning through play and reading.

If you plan to place her back into a public school at some point, I would find out what each grade teaches each year so you can keep her on track with the other kids she will attend school with.

My 3.5 year old loves being homeschooled. She likes the time we spend together, as do I. She is already on a Kindergarten/first grade level. When kids enjoy something they tend to learn more. My 2 year old is doing well too. She knows her ABC and letter sounds and is learning to count. She knows her shapes, colors are a bit tricky still. Everything is pink to her. She will get it soon enough though.

Good luck

By the time my kids started 1st grade at age 6 (no pre school, nursery school, kindergarten enrollment) they could read, write, and do simple math above and beyond what the other children could do that had attended "pre-nursery school/kindergarted...." programs. Go figgure, parental attention and training as opposed to "home schooling."
