frontline or advantage ( they truely are the best brands) once a month every month (NOT hartz or any other cheap flea meds, as they irritate pets' skin and cause severe health problems), a good flea bomb of the house, and wash EVERY carpet, bedding, clothing etc in hot water. bathing the cat wont do anything because fleas can withstand water for a while, and fleas dont live on cats ALL day, even if you deflea the cat, the carpet in the house and in your bed are infested with flea eggs, and the fleas will just jump right back on the cat within seconds.

You can. Would I? no. But I would have been treating my cat all along with flea prevention so as to avoid an infestation. What medicine did you use? Your problem can be solved with simple monthly applications of advantage or revolution (not frontline or ANYTHING you can buy from a store). If the fleas are as bad as you say they are, they've probably been there for quite a while, so I don't see that it would make much difference if your cat sleeps with you as usual.

Unless you have a ridiculously heavy infestation, you won't need to bomb the house or anything drastic like that. Applying the proper meds to the cat will take care of normal infestations. Any fleas in your house that aren't on your cat when you apply the meds will eventually jump on your cat - they prefer the cat to anything else in your home, including you. As soon as they jump on the cat, they are killed off too. But you must apply the meds faithfully every month.

A flea bite will be a red spot that itches, itches, ITCHES. In addition to all you've done you need to vacuum all areas where your cat has been, very thoroughly, and throw away the vacuum cleaner bag. Then you need to do it all again two weeks later. The fleas prefer your cat, but that doesn't mean you won't get a flea bite, too. If you can figure out where you cat got the fleas, that might help, but if she's an indoor/outdoor cat, the fleas may be baaaaack.

There should be no problems that is if your friend has said anything about the cat. If it is a cat that has been to the doctor for shots and checkups it should be fine. My cat sleeps with me at night and I have had no fleas or ticks near me. If the cat is a house cat it should be ok and if it an outdoor cat yes you might want to close your door at times, but like I said shots do help so its up to you on how safe you feel or call a vet.

Yes you can, you just might end up with fleas in your bed. There are a lot of different flea control options for your cat. I use a spot on, once a month and it keeps all my moggies flea free.

I would try to keep her off your bed until you have the lfeas under control. Otherwise maybe get a flea collar for yourself. :-)

I would not yet. If you want to hurry the process along there are a couple of products that you can buy from your vet or even on-line. One product is called Capstar. It is a pill that kills the fleas that are biting your cat for up to 24 hours. The other product is called Frontline. It takes up to 24 hours to start working, but it keeps working for up to three weeks.

Spray her with Frontline. I believe all these flea baths don't work. Better not let her in the bed until she is clear, or flea eggs will install in your bed and the problem will never end.

You can but that might be a bad idea. Fleas carry a lot of diseases, you might want to hold off till you know she's clean.

I have to add as well, NEVER use Hartz. My cat Heidi almost died. We had to take her to an emergency animal hospital, because she started to have grand mal seizures. The ""medicine"" is extremely toxic, especially small animals.
