So we're all distant relatives. At what point are we too related to not have sex? I imagine it lies somewhere between the 12th and 13th cousin area. I could be pretty conservative by suggesting this though. we're all related at some point back on the family tree.

Even if we don't all come from Adam and Eve, we are all still related to each other. Let's start acting like it.

No, its like 3rd or 4th cousins when it is okay to breed. Really not so much of a spread. From what I've read it is only 1st cousins and closer that create problems.

Are you Jewish? Then why believe the Adam and Eve myth? It is very far from provable. Just a story of how kids get together and marry and move out of the house. Read the story.
Don't confuse mythology with geneology. We are all desended from the "gods", in every culture that is the story. The names are changed to confuse the issue.

Well, I understand everyone's dna eventually goes back to Africa, including Scandinavians. It is believed that our differences are due to mutations. Our ancestors were normads at one time. It is now believed that certain types of people could not survive in certain areas and died out.

I also understand that biologist with genealogy dna are speculating that the human race possibly comes from one single set of parents in Africa about 100,000 years ago.

The American Indians or what today are called Native Americans crossed over to this continent from Asia about 10,000 years ago.

Since DNA has become more sophisticated there are more questions than answers regarding just 'from whom' 'we' are descended.
As for 'Adam'...it is a translated and transliterated ancient Sumerian word which actually meant 'humans' or 'human-kind'...
As far as being 'distant relatives', there are many of us who are. Of course, 'distant' is a relative term in this case!

In many states, first cousins cannot legally have sex or marry. In some, it is legal if one of the two is sterilized or otherwise unable to have children. Many people in the 18th and 19th century married cousins; it was quite common in all regions of the U.S.

I believe we all evolved from the same single-celled organism, so yes, technically we're related, although I do not believe the Adam-and-Eve theory for one second.

Uh, okay, how should one begin with this one? For one, the bible should never be taken literally. It is a book of analogies and metaphors. Pure and simple. Example: in the time period when the passages were written about Jesus’ virgin mother, "virgin" meant ‘unmarried woman’. Not, ‘woman who'd never gotten it on with a man’. So, when the bible discusses Adam & Eve, think philosophically and analytically for your best answer.

As far as gettin a little cousin action, it isn't accepted in our western society, however, several tousand of years ago, it was highly revered in order to keep some royal family blood lines untainted. That was also before science taught us how messed up inbreeding can cause the offspring. It was also in a time and place when and where deformed children of any kind were killed at birth.
Now, if you're not at risk of making babies (male on male sex or female on female) then, do as you will hurting no one.

Enjoy!
