That's another example of Christian hypocrisy, but you're not supposed to point it out. So shhhhhhhhhh....

"You shall not commit adultery" This is one of the 10 commandments which we must uphold. God's law has never been abolished like some religions claim. We cannot go to heaven with our sins.
As for your question, adultery has always been a sin. But remember that in ancient times, there was a period when society did not have the Bible. They did not have a guide to follow. In ancient times, polygamy was a cultural issue and God will judge them according to the light that was shed upon them. Yes the bible portrays men who served The Lord; but who had several wives. They were sinners and the Lord loved them dearly. How much more does the Lord love us. The bible is full of examples of men who were less than perfect; and just like their lives were transformed, we can be transformed too.The Lord loves us like He loved them. And He has given us an advantage over the ancient men.
By this I mean the following: today, we have the bible, we have the manual which tells us right from wrong. And in it, we find The Lord's Holy Law. We have more light than the ancient society does. We are more responsible because we know more and have more than they did. We have the bible, the Holy Law, we have the rich history of faithful men, and we have the holy spirit; which was left to us after Jesus Christ ascended to heaven.
Yes, adultery is a sin. Yes, polygamy existed in the old testament; which God will judge according to the light which they received. Yes, we are even more responsible for the bible truths that has been placed upon us to learn, believe in, and be faithful until The Lord returns in all His glory.

no where in the bible did God say that having concubines and harems was right. If you can find a passage that says God approved of it, show me. The point of this being in the OT is to show that even people in the Bible are real people, not perfect.

I don't believe in sin.

In Abrahamic religions it is common for powerfull MEN to have concubines or multiple wives. Then these "prophets" dictate that Adultry is wrong. Adultry is only worng if one is doing something that one knows would hurt the spouse. That value is to be decided by the couple and not dictated by supposed societal norms.

At the time of the writing of the bible, there were no guidelines for morality. Might makes right and all that. The one with the most toys at the end wins. People had no guidance, and no idea of what really was right and what was wrong. That's the reason the bible was written. It is the example for us, who live in their future.

I once asked my music teacher, "Who taught Beethoven theory of music?" She replied: "He wrote the book."

So......?

The Bible is a book all about PEOPLE. Regular run of the mill people. Flawed, sinful people. Just like the rest of us.

Yes, there is adultery, murder, rape, and every other evil known to man practiced and recorded in the Bible. That doesn't mean that they were right. These things had to be mentioned in the Bible, because they happened.

The whole point of the Bible is to let us know that even though those people were flawed and sinful, when they were willing to BELIEVE God, repent of their sin, and determined, with God's help to live a life of holiness, God was able to use them, and reward them. ><>♥<><

The old testament and new testament suffered a lot of human interpolations. The only testament that has remained since its revelation is the THE FINAL TESTAMENT i.e. THE QURAN. This testament confirms the previous two testaments and also points out that how they were interpolated. To know more about this testament, go to Harunyahya.com.

In the OT polygamy wasn't considered a sin. We all know that. These are morals set by the community, aren't they?

Also in the OT was the Song of Solomon where exclusive love is seen as the ideal.

The Bible is an honest book. It not only documents the good things that its heroes do, but their failings too. The heroes of the Bible were human, and the Bible does not try to sugar coat it.

This is just one of the many inconsistencies in the bible along with incest and mass murder.
If it's the word of god then he sure seems like a mighty confused person.
When you ask christians about this sort of thing they say "Oh your not supposed to take that bit literally"

Because number one, everyone in the Bible except for Jesus sinned, and number 2 polygamy isn't the same as adultery but polygamy wasn't God's perfect plan for people to begin with as Jesus told the religious people of his day.

Matthew 19:3 And Pharisees came up to him and tested him by asking, "Is it lawful to divorce one's wife for any cause?"

4 He answered, "Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female, 5 and said, 'Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh'? 6 So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate."

7 They said to him, "Why then did Moses command one to give a certificate of divorce and to send her away?"

8 He said to them, "Because of your hardness of heart Moses allowed you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so. 9 And I say to you: whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery."
