Gracy, my Shih Tzu, is home from the Vet's. She was spayed, and has been sleeping most of the day. But, she has woken up, went to the bathroom, eat a few bites of food and drank a tiny bit of water. We have gotten her to calm down if I hold her, which I don't mind one bit, but she has started to yelp a tiny bit more. We gave her her medication around two hours ago, as instructed by the vet. The vet's office closed quite a bit ago, otherwise, I would call them. Is there any way that we can take some of the pain she's feeling away?

there's not alot you can do.. give her the pain medication as prescribed and keep her calm.
She will feel better in a few days. The first day or two is always the hardest.

She's probably fine, maybe in a bit of discomfort. As long as you're giving her the meds that were sent home with her, that's really all you can do for now.
Just keep her quiet and try not to worry. Keep her food and water available, but don't be concerned if she's not eating or drinking tonight or tomorrow.
With spay surgery, the dog will probably do nothing but sleep the first day, and will most likely seem a little "off" for a day or two after. She will also be sore and won't want to do much for a few days. That is entirely normal. She should be back to herself by the third day post-surgery, maybe earlier, but still not up for exercise.
If you're worried about her, call your vet in the morning and explain your concerns. In most cases, though, a healthy dog will come through the spay surgery with no complications or problems. Just keep an eye on her and let her take it easy for a few days! Good Luck!

Sounds like Gracy is acting normal after her spay. The first 24-48 hrs they are still getting over effects from surgery and may be a little "out of it". We've spayed/neutered 1000s at the rescue. Within a few days she will pick back up and act like nothing happened. Now all dogs know how to act pitiful for attention! Her meds should control the pain. She is just wanting you to baby her a bit.
I assume they gave you a sheet of "after surgery instructions"? It is amazing how quick dogs bounce back after surgery!! Keep an eye on surgical area/stitches for redness or her messing with. She'll be fine so don't fret.

I would have to hope for the best and say she is probably not in that much pain. The vet probably gave her some decent medication and that could be causing her to not eat or drink much. I would give her as much comfort as possible. Unlike humans she doesn't know why she feels funny from medication and is probably more scared than anything. She is not suppose to be very active for a while after being spayed either.

Just keep doing what the vet told you to do.
While you don't want her in severe pain, you don't want her feeling to good either. I know that sounds kind of mean, but if she feels a little crappy, she'll rest more which she needs to do to heal. You don't want her bouncing off the wall and ripping out stitches.
She'll be good as new in a day or two.

What medication did you give her? Was that pain meds? If so then there is not much more you can do, however if it is another type of med then you can give her a baby aspirin. Also you can get a hot water bottle and have her lay on it as that may make her feel better.

Really nothing more you can do. The first day is the hardest, and she'll have a longer, healthier and happier life because of this. If you're worried, call an emergency vet and ask them for advice.

be careful about picking her up, since it will hurt her if you put any pressure on or near the incision. I'd just recommend letting her move herself around, and providing soft cushions or pillows for her to lie on. And keep giving her the pain medication as instructed.

I agree with the other 2 answers, but I would also sit on the floor with her and pet her rather than pick her up..she did have surgery and that very act of picking her off the floor might cause pain.
