Try a light snack before bed. Warm milk and foods high in the amino acid tryptophan, such as bananas, may help you to sleep; avoid alcohol/caffeine 4-6 hrs before bedtime.
The American Dietetic Association recommends eating sources of both carbs and protein together as a snack, giving examples such as crackers and low fat cheese, yogurt and fruit or cereal and milk.
In an Australian Institute of Sport sample high energy meal plan for a young anonymous athlete, fruit smoothies with skim milk, fruit, ice-cream and skim milk powder was listed as the bed time snack
So according to the experts, examples of the most beneficial bed-time snacks are:
* fruit and some plain low fat yogurt,
* a skim milk smoothie with fruit, or
* low fat cheese on crackers - my personal favorite.
When you combine both carbohydrates and protein in a snack it makes for a much more enjoyable and varied snack than just mixing up a protein shake or munching on an apple. This way you are not only ensuring that your body is getting enough ready energy for use of overnight, but also ensuring that you are also "feeding" your muscles.

Glass of hot milk and a few cookies (biscuits to us who live in the Southern Hemisphere!). What you eat after 9pm does just turn into fat as you're not burning calories (well, minimally) so you need to be careful what you put into your stomach. Maybe you're not eating enough carbs at night for dinner - eg. pasta, rice, bread or potatoes. These keep you satiated for longer and may help you avoid having a snack before bed.

Some light crackers with ham or sliced boiled eggs would be good. :P
Or if you don't like milk but are partial to other dairy products, how about some cottage cheese to go with a slice of wheat bread? It's low in calories and delicious. :)

A hot cup of Oolong Chinese Tea (without sweeteners) and a couple of cookies (no sweeteners, if prefer ed) as "comfort food" and to complement your "hard day of work". You gave your best for the whole day...YOU deserve something warming and comforting before you RETIRE for the Day!

Try an apple right before bedtime, it also helps with bad breath the next day, if you eat one every night.
