I would recommend a Nikon D40 (if possible, with the double kit : 18-55 & 55-200)
I think only a DSLR will be fast enough for such action shots.

pay attention to Teef_AU and Koko in this one. A pictures scholar desires the ingenious administration of a (digital) SLR. * With a element & shoot this is virtually impossible to blur the foreground/ history the way you elect with a view to isolate your subject. This has to do with the tiny sensors utilized in compact cameras. this does not count for snapshots, yet intensity of container is a significant element of ingenious pictures. * element and shoot cameras virtually continuously concentration on the closest merchandise to the lens and don't enable you override the vehicle-concentration. For ingenious pictures you elect extra administration. those are purely lots of the fundamentals. a sophisticated photographer will additionally use the extra greater good factors that purely (digital) SLR cameras enforce properly, like custom white stability, exposure bracketing, the choice to apply an exterior flash, etc. upload to all of this, that a (digital) SLR is massively extra responsive than a element & shoot digicam and you're fairly speaking approximately thoroughly distinctive strategies. Your value selection of $2 hundred is in all threat sufficient for used Pentax K1000 or Nikon FM action picture SLR. those are geared up like tanks and grant comprehensive instruction manual administration. the main inexpensive digital fashions value over double your value selection.

I work in a camera place and I test and recommend cameras.
try looking in to the Panasonic DMC-TZ1K. Its an excellent camera with 10X optical zoom and a great quality lense made by Leica. It has image stabilizer, uses SD and MMC memory card and has a nice comfortable weight to it. It is priced at $250.
The other one is the Olympus Stylus 760. Image stabalizer. Excellent picture quality and weather proof incase you get caught in the rain. Very easy menu. Priced at $250 It comes black, silver and pink.
Hope this helps.

$500- or even $400 is a lot to spend on a point and shoot camera.Check Website dpreview.com
It shows reviews of many cameras and prices. If you're not going to take very many photos even $300- is too much.
