Because Jesus told Peter to "feed my sheep", speaking of the Christian believers.

The 23rd Psalm is all about The Shepherd and his sheep. It is a word picture of Jesus leading us, his sheep. He leads us, protects us, feeds us, waters us. He carries a "rod" (which is a big club which he uses against our enemies, in our defense).

He carries a staff (which is a long pole with a crook at the end, with which he reaches into the bushes for us, or hooks around our neck when we've gotten off the path, and onto a dangerous ledge). He prepares a table before us in the presence of our enemies. (He makes them watch, as he blesses us!)

My faith is not "blind". I have seen plenty of proof that God exists, that He loves me, that He knew me before the foundations of the world, that he was present and active when I was knit together in my mother's womb, and that He has a plan for my life.

We are not the followers of "The Christian Clergy". We are the followers of Jesus Christ. We are His Sheep! ><>♥<><

Sheep are led from one place to another, out of danger to safety, to food and water, by a shepherd. Shepherd=sheep herder. Jesus is the Shepherd of Christians and offers to be such to all people. Jesus is the shepherd (Bible calls it the "Good Shepherd"),and people/Christians are the sheep. In like manner, clergy have a congregation of followers/believers/church members,(sheep) to care for and about. Clergy try to lead people to Christ and help lead them to a stronger faith. Clergy also try to lead the congregation, or sheep, to respectful humanistic aiding of others.

congrats, you must be the 1,000,000th person to ask this question.
For all those out there going to answer the same question, here is the answer.
It's not cause we require "blind" faith. It is because back in that day and age, shepard weren't like the narzies today on horse back shouting at the sheep, the shepard would call the sheep, and they would follow, and he would look after them and care for them. That is the real reason. Try learn some context.

First of all your analogy is flawed. Sheep are not blind. Jesus refers to His followers as Sheep and Himself as the Shepperd. Some clergy use the same analogy but it was meant as Jesus leading us and taking care of us. Peace

Christians are the sheep and Jesus is our shepherd. These sheep had no Shepherd and it clearly shows what happens when the blind (non-believers) try to do things alone. Without Jesus you will perish as it is told in the bible. But if we have Jesus to guide us we shall never taste death.

Because on our own, we would be devoured by evil. But just like sheep, if we stay close to where the shepherd leads, we will be safe. And, like sheep, if we are stubborn and stray away too often, sooner or later we'll get devoured.

They call their parishioners sheep because they are followers of the Good Shepherd, the Lord Jesus Christ. He, Jesus, is the leader of the flock of believers in Him.

Maybe blind faith is required when there are sheep involved.

I didn't see anything!!!

It is a sad story for those poor 450 sheep. I hope and pray that we are not mindless sheep like that. Wait, there is a contradiction there. I, instead, merely hope that we are not like that.
