I met a lady after 45 years. we were friend she went to USA from Germany and I to India. We hugged and talked a lot but when meeting and departing which side of the cheek of the lady should be kissed.

The one where you don't bump noses. Left, right, it doesn't matter provided you go in opposite directions. Take your cue from whoever moves first.

Generally, I would kiss the same cheek that was closest when I was hugging. But just a hug is fine.

Doesn't matter here in the US, but I have heard of other countries having traditions of either the right or the left side.

If you are going to kiss only on one cheek then I would say your left cheek to her left cheek. The heart is normally thought be be on the left side of the chest. Kissing on left cheeks put your hearts closer.
