Do you ever have something you are terrified to say (brick) create unexpectedly positive results that are liberating and delightful (butterfly) when you finally have the courage to say it?

The exercise of language is a liberating thing, yes, but it is dependent upon the dynamic of the person communicating and also the person receiving the communication.

In other words, the reaction received is out of our control, basically: we cannot measure how a person will react to what we say. We can make an educated guess, however.

To directly answer the question, this has not generally been my experience, as I weigh what I say and after much time spent in practice, almost naturally manage my words well enough to ensure a positive response.

Sometimes I've been surprized to receive a negative response.

Honesty in relationships. It took me a long time to find the courage to speak up when someone was behaving badly. I (and everyone else would endure it).

Now, I've learned to be honest with humor that doesn't cost the person their self esteem.

It's deligtful to take the friendship to a higher level. Plus, people don't annoy me so much.

Yes...I was terrified to say "I love you" & "Yes, I'll be yours" to the person who loved me due to my own insecurities and fears of criticism by others.
But when I said those words...it was the most magical feeling in the world...I cried...he cried...and it's a moment I'll never forget.
It'll be three years to the day next week and what a wonderful three years it's been.
Somethings are much better said than unsaid.
