This probably sounds like generally a stupid question to even ask.

I work part-time, but at the moment I'm working nearly full-time hours. 34-36 hours a week, and it's a bit too much for me. I have too much going on in life, but the thing is, I know that I'm needed at work. This is just a part-time job for this year while I attend to some things and research more about courses for next year. My employers seem pretty set on having me in at these hours, but I honestly cannot do it anymore. It may seem low, but I really need 20-25 hours a week, and nothing more.

At least now in my life.

How do I go about bringing this up in the most polite way I can?

I'm nervous when it comes to these things.

Ask your supervisor if you can talk to them about your schedule when they have time. Explain to them what's going on (just like here on your question, you can just say it's personal and not give out details if you don't want them to know) and ask if they can reduce your hours. They can always hire another person part-time to fill in the hours you cannot work. Better yet, if you know someone looking for part-time work, you can recommend them, and that might make your employer feel better. I think they should understand your situation. If it doesn't work out, you can look for another PT job. Don't feel guilty - you need to take care of yourself, your life first. Good luck!

dude! u call that overload!? here in the US many people, even part-timers, worked for 40 to 45 hrs a week and they ain't complaining about it! most of them even go to school and they can still make it... but if u feel that u can't do it anymore, then just tell ur boss that make a cut of ur hours and explain to him that u have to have an available time on ur studies and that's it!...

Ask for less hours, the worst thing that can happen is you will get fired.
