He'd probably quote to you exactly where to find it, then hold you in contempt of court for being rude.

Just pay your ticket. Or take defensive driving.

You could also try rescheduling your court date a couple of times (the max is twice in most states), ask for a trial by jury, reset that as many times as possible, then hope that the officer who gave you the ticket doesn't show up. In which case it WOULD be dismissed. (But I wouldn't count on him not showing up..you never know!)

Oh and PS: That family lawyer is a blooming idiot!!!!!

It is not true. The vehicle code covers speed laws, and the requirements to follow the speed laws... So you're just going to make the judge mad.

It doesn't matter what the circumstances were, if you were speeding, you were speeding... and I have a feeling I'd have told you to stop talking, too!!

Just take your insurance card in and show it to the judge, so he knows you DID have proof of insurance... and be respectful when you SUGGEST that the police officer MAY have misread the insurance card... No long stories about it.. the judge doesn' want to hear it.

no you would probably piss the judge off by asking that in court. Instead, you research the question and provide him with the justification as to why you should not get the ticket. If it is reasonable, likely he will dismiss it. Your local library or the court librarian can help you . Otherwise, just pay it and don't do it again. Slow down, pay attention, don't drive and operate a cell phone, pda, or other like device. Remember both hands on the wheel, eyes straight ahead!

Did this Family lawyer get his law degree from a correspondence school?

You are breaching the into the "You don't tug on Superman's cape" area. Best way to piss off a Judge is to act like you know the law or question him/her on a point of law. Try a different approach before the possibility of a contempt charge.

well, the judge, and the prosecutor will show you in the books exactly where that law is written. You will not get out of the ticket and you will look like a fool

ask away...but take your family lawyer friend with. does that lawyer friend even like you? any lawyer I know, (and I know a couple or 3) says to be respectful to the judge. let your "friend" ask the question.

Don't get on the judge's bad side by being flip. Keep silent.
