If you are allergic, you shouldn't get a cat. Even a small cat or kitten will set it off. You can always get a "surrogate kitty." Look for a realistic plush kitten to keep around the house or on your bed. A stuffed animal won't grow bigger or make you sneeze!

There are several types of smaller cats. The most famous are the Munchkin cats. While they are cute to some, they come with a high price and a short lifespan. Munchkins have heart problems and can have respiratory issues as will. Look into a purebred cat. Bengals are cute as kittens and amazing as adults and they never stop playing like kittens. Type in Munchkin cat breeders on Yahoo search and you will be directed to breeders. Find one in your state and if you really want one, adopt. On the other hand, if you just want a kitten, then don't get one at all. Kittens, all kittens, no matter what breed they are, will grow into cats. Shelters are overflowing with "kittens" that grew up and were abandoned by people who liked kittens and not cats. How would you feel had your parents abandoned you because they thought babies were cute but didn't want kids? A responsible owner loves the animal, not the stage of life it is in!

Yes, they are out there, but if you only want a kitten because you think it's cute, you dont need a cat. Since you are allergic that shouldnt be an issue. You have to learn to respect a cat and love it for who it becomes. Many adult cats are abandoned because they have gotten over the "cute" phase. The thing about adult cats is that they are great companions and are capable of alot of love. I have 2 kittens right now and I honestly can't wait for them to mature. The fact that you would even consider giving something to stunt their growth is horrible. You wouldnt think so kindly of it if your parents did it to you to keep you "cute". I only ask that you consider being a cat owner is all about even if you never plan on owning one. The people who can love a cat no matter what even with all of their faults are the ones who make perfect cat owners.

Munchkins aren't dwarf cats, they have regular cat sized bodies but very short legs, so they're not what you're thinking of.

Midget sized cats are either a genetic defect or a product of inbreeding. My sister's barn cats haven't had outcrosses and over the last 10 years her cats have gotten smaller and smaller. The one she pointed out to me which I thought was a kitten she said was a 3 year old tomcat. It's not good for them to be that small, medical problems crop up in them. Nobody in the cat fancy has been showing miniature cats in our area in at least the last 10 years, so it's not something standard.

WHAT IS A MUNCHKIN?
The Munchkin, or Dwarf cat, is a naturally occurring domestic cat breed characterized by unusually short legs.

PERSONALITY
Munchkins have very sweet, kitten-like personalities. And they will keep their kittenish ways all their lives. They are very affectionate, playful, and love to be around people, other cats and dogs. Munchkins are not aggressive cats, but are very social and out-going. They enjoy the company of other animals and adapt well to most circumstances. Have you ever gotten a kitten and wished it would stay little, playful and cute forever? Then try a Munchkin... the "kitten forever" cat!

Yes, there are teacup cats out there. My Sister had one. It's stood about 4 to 5 inches tall at 6 months of age and it's whiskers were maybe 1/2 of a centimeter long.
They are very rare and are highly valued. I've seen them priced at or around $10,000. My Sister's was stolen. They are prone to illness and injury and do not live as long as an ordinary sized cat. The older they get, the more delicate they become.

OK! Calm Down People i am sure it was just a Joke. Calm DOWN.

I have a litter of 8 kittens and i have runt and he is 1/3 the size of the rest of the kittens.

If you are allergic to cats it is better not to get one. cause then you may have to get rid of it. although you are a cat lover you should not get a kitten cause of your allergies it could do you wrong in the long run. Anyway. Good Luck

There are some persian breeders who swear that a natural mutation has occured and they are breeding "mini" and "teacup" cats, and selling them for upwards of 3,000 dollars.
They swear the adult "teacups" get to be 4-5 pounds (normally 8-12 pounds)

Problem I have is that there are only pictures of the kittens. Sorry, all kittens are small!
You'd think with the amount of money paid on them someone, somewhere would post a picture of these cats.

Hold on, I'll get you the links.

You're allergic to cats and you don't think they're cute once they grow up. And you actually would give one something to stunt it's growth if such a thing existed??? Simple answer - DON'T GET A CAT. You sound far too judgemental to deserve one even if you weren't allergic! I'm sure they wouldn't think you very cute, either.
