It's not certified , it's registered. If the parents aren't AKC , it can't be done.

You can't. Basically what AKC papers say is that the American Kennel Club has tracked that dog's parentage. If it doesn't have the parents registered on file, then it can't accept your pup either. The whole idea of a pedigree is that it's an unbroken line of registrations. It's like being able to track your family back to the Mayflower... if you've got some missing relatives in the middle, you just won't be able to make the claim.

Fortunately, a piece of paper showing your dog's family lines is not at all important to how your pup will fit in as a fantastic member of your household. These papers are only important if you want to show your dog in conformation (like what you'd see on TV for the big Westminster Show). They also *suggest* (but do NOT guarantee) a mark of quality of the breeder since non-AKC breeders for many breeds are more *likely* (again, NOT guaranteed) to be uneducated about genetic safety and good breeding practices than breeders who pursue AKC-recognition. This second reason is a completely moot point since you already have your puppy. The important thing is not AKC or not AKC -- the important thing is that your trust that your breeder was working to produce puppies with great health and temperament, and if you've got that, then you've got all you need.

If the parents weren't AKC registered, the puppy cannot be AKC registered.

But since it's a pet and not a show dog, and you're not going to be breeding, you really don't need papers.

If the parents aren't REGISTERED with the AKC then your puppy can't be. In order to be AKC registered both parents must be registered and the litter also must be registered.

you cant.. sorry. Both parents have to be AKC registered for you to get a registration. Registration is only important for breeding and showing tho. They dont need it to be a good pet.

If you are wanting to enter her into non-conformation AKC sponsored events (obedience, agility, etc).. you can get an ILP listing.

At best you can get an ILP number and show it in agility and/or obedience. It will never have full registration and any pups from it will not be recognized by AKC as purebred registered dogs, so please spay/neuter it..
