Are the subway worker pretty helpful with lost clients or are they rude?

It is my belief that the rudest person can be thwarted with the proper delivery. New Yorkers are very intuitive when it comes to a persons character. Don't try to be overly nice, or overly sweet and most likely the transit worker will reciprocate. This is not saying that a transit worker being rude will not offer you assistance, however, regardless the location people are people with good days and bad and one would think that you would like a pleasant experience when getting directions.

From Times Square, take the southbound/Brooklyn bound Q train three stops to Canal Street. Or, if you're not comfortable on the subway, and have the time, take the bus - get the southbound M6 bus (to South Ferry). Get off the bus at Broadway and Lispenard (don't worry about it for at least a half hour - just enjoy the ride) - the driver will tell you when to get off if you ask him - both when you get on the bus and after a half hour to remind him. Walk north on Broadway to Canal Street - you are in Chinatown!

Take a downtown N or Q train both of which run express, you could also take the R or W train but those two run local. The Canal Street station on these trains is at Canal and Broadway.

To get to Canal and Varick (7th Avenue) take a downtown 1,2 or 3 train to Canal Street.

Canal Street is a major Manhattan thoroughfare. Most of the subways stop there. From TS, you could take the red 1,2,3, or other subways. If you're a tourist, NYers will be friendly to you. If not a tourist, you will be treated like any other joe or jane.

Take the N or Q express trains. It's about a 15 minute ride.
