Well the good news is, you can't ruin your hair for the rest of your life because you can keep cutting it until the damaged hair is finally cut off. As long as it grows the new hair is always healthy until you put chemicals on it. You definitely will want to go to a professional, but since going lighter blonde than your natural color will require bleach, you may not need to have it stripped first. It depends on what the sylist suggests. To strip the color they use a heavy lifting bleach that basically takes ALL the color out of your hair and then whatever color you want they dye it to--stripping color is a very chemicaly intensive procedure. But it's definitely not something you want to try at home--when I was in high school I tried for all 4 years to get blonde hair (I have medium to dark brown hair) and all I succeeded in doing was frying my hair so bad I had to have it all cut off and let it grow back out. I don't do anything with chemicals on my own anymore. But for something like this you may be looking at anywhere from $30 to $100 depending on how many things they do and how you want it to turn out. Good luck to you!

I'm a blond. I've had my hair every single color you can imagine. The only time I had my hair stripped was when I dyed it black. I also had auburn as a hair color, and just bleached it, and it was fine. But when I did have it stripped, it was very expensive. I went to an upscale salon though. It took two sessions and about 8 hours. The best after that was bright orange hair because it was so damaged the salon owner would not dye it anymore. It was awful for a long time. I also had a chunk that didn't grow, and did not for years. It was awful. But I don't think you would need to strip it. I would just try to bleach it or see what a professional says.

I would definitely have a professional do it. It will probably cost you at least $100. If you do go ahead and color it how you want, you will have to use special shampoos and conditioners to help your hair stay strong and healthy. Chemical processes are very damaging to hair.
Don't worry, your hair won't be damaged for life. If your hair is ever damaged, it will grow back in healthy.

what ever you do don't strip your hair, i have a friend that did that and her hair is totally fried! I think you should just take it step to step, like every two weeks dye it lighter and lighter until you get the color you want. But do it from like dark brown to brown and then brown to like a lighter brown and so on. it should work. Just believe me when i say this stripping your hair would be a big mistake and it is a little expensive

Get it done professionally. Hair dyes are very strong, even if they don't seem it. If you do it even the slightest bit wrong, then your hair may discolour. If you leave it in for just a few minutes too long, your hair could fall out! Don't take the risk.

you need to get close to to you organic hair coloration in case you re-dye yet you will definatly harm your hair given which you will might desire to bleach, and in case you are trying this at a salon it would be quite costly reason this is hard to get black out your hair.

strip or bleach?
It's easy to strip your hair Wash it will dish soap in stead of shampoo. Don't forget the conditioner hair needs to be conditioned no matter what.
It won't destroy your hair I used to do that once month cuz I had REALLY OILY hair.

Stripping is concerted corrective hair color and yes it is pricey.
It will leave your hair extremely dry and brittle.
I've been a licensed cosmetologist for thirty years.
Hope this helps.
