why the segregation to atheists . some have more it's an identifier and I suppose could have the advantage of choice but I find only more confusing since I chose to go by my middle name and the nickname of it as I grew up with ;it's bothersome to explain why my natural name is considered an alias by the courts and why it never matches the name I have to use for official signatures. someday maybe I'll go through the court proceedings and have the first name dropped but I doubt if I trouble my self.

What? Atheists should just run around yelling "Boy child" and "Girl child"?

You name your kids whatever the heck you want, because you like the name, you want to honor a loved one...

How is this an "atheist" question?

Why is this question only asked to Atheists? Naming a child is more about culture and tradition and not belief or dis-belief.

Ever hear of George Foreman? The former heavyweight Boxing Champion of the World and spokesman for his own line of grills? He named every one of his sons George! Without midle names, how would thet know which one he was calling?

I'm agnostic, so I don't see what naming my child has to do with religion at ALL. I named my daughter what I wanted to call her the rest of her life!

Just for the fun of it, I guess. Also, to give them more options if they want to name their kids after someone, but don't want the name as a first name.

Middle names were used at one time to identify the mother's family name. Many do it today also.

I don't know... I like it for the chance it gives us to honour both halves of the background of any child we might have.

Why do you only ask atheists, btw?

It makes it less likely that two or more people get the exact same name.
