It's something I've been praying for a very long time. I refuse to get married, but love to be single and perhaps? dedicate myself to God. What are the signs? I pray hard.

If you DO NOT have a calling by God would it still be wise to dedicate yourself to God by becoming a nun?

The Lord never commanded
ANY of His followers to remain
single. He has made you to
marry and have children and
live a life dedicated to Him.
I don't know when this
celibacy came into the church
but I don't feel the Lord ever
intended it. We can tell the
outcome of that by the many
cases of child molestation.
It all sounds so holy to be
single/celibate and devote your life to Jesus...but you had better find out what HE
WANTS.

You can be married and still be "dedicated" to your spiritual journey. Being "single" doesn't necessarily mean, that you have a special calling to serve Christ. Perhaps, married life is not your "cup of tea" and remaining single is your preference. The only difference between being married and being single in service to Christ, is that single persons have less home-life and family commitments therefore, making serving Christ more convenient, to say the least.

Dedicating ones self to Christ does not mean staying single. It means making Christ as the center of your life in making decisions that lead you down the path of Christianity and do good works with God's grace and an unwavering belief as to what is important in your life.

why do you refuse to get married? marraige can be a very good thing. Love is a very good thing. I never agreed with the catholic tradition of celebacy or not getting married. I feel that god put us here to love one another. As friends and as lovers. You can not contiue the human race without children and children come from marraige. If you wish to help society, get married to a good person who believes as strongly in gods words as you do and raise children who believe strongly as well. Their influence in the world can be great.

Pray Pray Pray! And be patient when waiting for the answer. Sometimes answers to our prayers come through other people. Sometimes doors are opened and others are closed. Sometimes we wait years for our answers....but God is faithful and he will not leave you hanging forever.

I'm sure you have heard it. If you want to make God laugh, tell Him your plan.
There are many ways to dedicate yourself to God, not just one. So listen to your heart and use your gift.

Either way it's a waste of time. Don't think religious orders just take anyone either: it can be easier to get into prison than into a religious order, especially if they believe you don't have a vocation or aren't psycho-socially suitable.
