Whenever I open a movie with VLC player this error message comes up (cant remember what it says, and i accidently checked the 'Don't show this message again' box before i closed it). Before I checked this box, I usually just dismissed this error message (clicked the 'dismiss' button).

So now to see if anything's wrong I open 'messages' in VLC, and it has this:
main debug: removing module ..... blah blah blah
main debug: killing decoder.... blah blah
etc
and the following are highlighted in yellow:
main warning: PTS is out of range (bunch of numbers here), dropping buffer

is this a bug??

i download a file a few days ago that said that i had to download w3player or something to open the file, i downloaded it but it didnt work, then i read on Yahoo Answers that there was no such thing as a w3player and that it was a trojan? that it was spyware. What does this mean?
I deleted this w3player.
Did I infect my Mac with w3player?
Is it causing VLC to behave like this?

What do I do now?

You say "When I open a movie..." but I'm not sure if that is a movie file on your hard drive or an online movie. Either way, I doubt your Mac has a bug. My search at www.apple.com/support for w3player gives no results so it appears Apple is unaware of any w3player malware for Mac.

If you are trying to play online video as a stream, it is more likely that VLC player has a bug as reported already by many others in the Videolan.org forums. This type of problem seems to come up when streaming an H264 encoded file.

Have you tried using QuickTime Player as the default to play streaming video? First, install the Flip4Mac browser plugin that allows QuickTime to play WMV files online (link below). This has become necessary because Microsoft will not make a WMV plugin for Safari/ Firefox. Then see if it will play the stream without errors. I am using QuickTime player for all streaming video and no problems.
