I think that anyone who is optimistic is a bit deluded, actually. Consider that we have been involved in this war longer than we were in WWII.
There is no end in sight. And, what are we fighting for?
We invaded Iraq and totally destroyed their infrastructure. After 4 years, citizens of Baghdad still have electricity only a few hours a day, and running water the same.
We say that we are staying there to "train" Iraqis to provide security. What is that about? Iraqis were providing security for their country long before we invaded. Think about it. Why do we need to "train" Iraqis. They had, before we invaded, a standing army and police, let's restore that and get out.
The Bushies say that we are in Iraq to fight terrorists. Funnily enough, there weren't that many in Iraq until we invaded.

I'd rather we hadn't gone in, at least when we did, but since we're there, and Petraeus has changed things towards a more reasonable approach, I'm mildly and cautiously optimistic.
I'm also very tired of hearing comparisons of time-lines to World War II. That was a mixture of 2d and 3d generation war, and the equivalent in Iraq lasted very little time indeed. 4th generation war is a different animal. We've lost one slowly, and a couple quickly, but we've never won one (whatever that means, and it isn't clear what a win is) in less than a decade, and the wins never feel like wins when they come. This form of warfare is quite different from the others, and my expectations are different. Also, we have very few resources dedicated to the theory of fighting these things, and since they're the type we're likely to see in the future, I also see this as a valuable teaching ground, bloody-minded as that is.

I see we have another flaming liberal with a government education on our hands, look if you will get off the Move On websites and look around at some alternative news sources you would see we have made huge increases in the stability of Iraq,if you would every take the time to talk to a service man or woman that has actually been to Iraq a LISTEN to what they have to tell you maybe you could begin to understand that the only way we lose this war is if we let the main stream liberal bias hate mongering defeatist socialist media tell us what t hey want us to believe and of course people like you soak it up like a sponge with out ever stopping for a moment to ask yourself what if they have an agenda of their own and maybe they are being less than honest with me,but it is easy to set back and let others do the thinking for you isn't it.

I think we need to get out of there now.
Every day that we are there, more of our troops have a chance of getting killed. I don't want to see any more of our troops killed. Some of these soldiers are 19 and 20 year old kids, others are new parents. Let the U.N. take on the role of security.
