Don't use the tomato sauce or juice it will only cover over the smell. Use 1 quart (or liter) of 3% Hydrogen Peroxide, H2O2.
Use fresh (unopened) hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). Hydrogen peroxide eventually turns into water (H2O).
1/4 cup (50 ml.) of Baking Soda
1 teaspoon (5 ml.) of Liquid Soap
1 pair of plastic or latex gloves
Work into fur after spraying with warm tap water. Keep out of eyes. Let on for 10 mins. rinse. Have used this on a dead skunk that was hit in front of my house and it got rid of the odor completely.

It won`t kill the dog the smell is the problem there are 2 ways to help with this but the dog will smell a bit even after
To neutralise or deodorise skunk spray, the chemicals in the secretion must be changed to a different type of molecule. Tomato juice does not work (see below for an explanation).
For pets that have been sprayed, bathe the animal in a mixture of 1 quart of 3% hydrogen peroxide (from drug store), 1/4 cup of baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) and a teaspoon of liquid detergent. After 5 minutes rinse the animal with water. Repeat if necessary. The mixture must be used after mixing and will not work if it is stored for any length of time. DO NOT STORE IN A CLOSED CONTAINER - it releases oxygen gas so it could break the container. This mixture may bleach the pet's hair.
. Bathing an animal in tomato juice seems to work because at high doses of skunk spray the human nose quits smelling the odor (olfactory fatigue). When this happens, the odor of tomato juice can easily be detected. A person suffering olfactory fatigue to skunk spray will swear that the skunk odor is gone and was neutralized by the tomato juice. Another person coming on the scene at this point will readily confirm that the skunk spray has not been neutralized by the tomato juice.

The most popular home remedy for de-skunking your dog is as follows:
1 quart 3 percent hydrogen peroxide
¼ cup baking soda
1 teaspoon dish detergent (I prefer Dawn)
Wet your smelly pal down and rub the mixture into it's coat. Leave it on for 10 minutes and then rinse thoroughly. If you
have any of this solution left, discard it immediately because it becomes combustible when stored in a closed container.
When I started grooming, people often used tomato juice to remove skunk odor. Because it is acidic, it combats the alkaline
skunk oil but it makes an awful mess. I recall one big Samoyed who arrived at the grooming shop after such a home
treatment and we were surprised to see that he had turned a lovely shade of pink!
In our salon, we use a powdered enzymatic product, soaking the dog in the solution and following up with a deodorizing
shampoo. There are also some effective products on the market that use enzymes to digest the odor-causing bacteria, but
they can cause irritation if you get them in your dog’s eyes. It’s a good idea to keep them on hand for your Golden’s future
late-night adventures so he won’t have to be exiled to the garage again.

Ahh I hated when my doggy got sprayed. if you have peroxide and dishliquid use that. We just had to put our dog in the garge for the night because it was 2 am and no store was open. But when you get a chance get natures miracle skunk odor remover, it does work miracles! Oh and I also herd that tomato juice DOES NOT work, but you can still try it...

Pour a can or two of tomato sauce over him and let it sit for a few. Then give him a wash with the hose. Repeat if needed.
Seriously
It's what my family did for generations. Now looking it up online just to see what people these days say, there are other mixtures you can try. I personally don't trust using detergents and chemicals on my dogs as much as I do a natural remedy. The chemical mixture recommended you can find below.
Take either or leave em.

omg DONT KILL the skunk. First get your dog wet.
Then lather him with tomato juice. Make sure you get in his fur deep.
Rinse and repeat for 3 times
If the smell is still not gone
use tomato juice and rinse three times. Then bath him with a non tear shampoo it should work.
You can also buy deskunk from pet stores and leave the juice on him for at least 2minutes
DO NOT KILL THE SKUNK ( if you must...catch him/her and set him free somewhere else)

Here's what you do: Mix 4 c. hydrogen peroxide with 4 tbsp. baking soda and 1 tsp. dish-washing soap
Put cotton balls or tissues in the dog's ears to protect it from the cleaning mixture, cause it could drip in. And you should wear gloves.
This should be done outside...Start with your dog's head, then work your way down, rubbing it in good through the fur. Rinse with water and repeat if necessary.
Tomato juice is also effective with getting rid of the smell: rub on and let soak for 15 min.
Hope this helps!
