don't scratch, it spreads the infection. Try calamine lotion.

No, don't use bleach. You might think you'll get relief from the irritating itching, but you'll simply burn your skin.

There are many remedies for poison ivy on the market, but Caladryl seems to be among the most favored. It is a clear liquid and dries relatively fast, restraining the itching for hours.

I wash the rash with genuine lye soap to help dry out the blistering, but patience is a virtue. Also, I use Dermarest Poison Ivy Mousse, a brand that is applied to the rash in a foamy mixture which dries and protects for hours too.

In addition to those items, I use a prescribed lotion drug from a dermatologist called Promosone 2.5%, hydrocortisone acetate 2.5& pramoxine HCI 1%, which is most expensive at $100 for a small bottle. I paid much less than that because I have CHAMPUS (Tricare).

My main suggestion is gently wash the rash frequently with mild soap and cool water and then apply Caladryl or similar treatment. If none of this works I suggest you visit your doctor and request a cortizone shot. That will help the healing process faster.

I have poison ivy on my right wrist, contracted Tuesday from my dog. I ought to bathe her frequently, but I don't. She's a Labrador and loves the woods, bringing home to me many samples I prefer not to have.

i think you just have to let it do its own thing. there is lotion that helps with the itching and just keep it covered and DONT SCRATCH. if it gets too bad your doctor can give you some meds to help with swelling and histamine blockers as well. hope you get better soon
