other than a k&n air intake and a free flow exhaust there isn't much else to do unless you want to fix broken parts regularly

what size engine does it ahve? if it has a straight four, put in a 3.0L V6 like mine. My Tempo is 15 years old and FLIES!!!
otherwise you could try and put a V8 in it. but WHY would you want to make it faster? it doesn't have the handling to race.

I like Richard B's answer myself! But I will explain better why you shouldn't soup up a Taurus. THey have very weak transmissions that are expensive to rebuild, if you baby it you should get 120k miles out of the original tranny and then you will be looking at about $3000 to rebuild it (if done right). Taurus's also have a number of other reliability issues and in my impinion they are somewhat of a lemon. I myself had one and since I have a heavy foot the tranny burned up on me after only 100k miles. If you want to go fast you must trade that Taurus in on a Mustang GT. Good luck!

You can usually get 10 hp by putting a K&N air filter in.
Other than that your bummin
You could tear out the AC and lose 400 pounds.

electrical fault . possibly throttle pedal sensor. a diagnostic check at a garage should pinpoint easily. timing and fuelling is depend on Sensor input to ECU if we have a bad connection? it can play havoc with info and give this sort of result.

Put it on an aircraft carrier and have them hook it up to one of those jet launchers and fling it into the ocean. Good bye Ford.
