I read it and followed it a little bit for my first child. I personally do not agree and dont' use it for my new baby. I believe that children should be free spirits (maybe because I am , lol). The only schedule my baby needs is to know night and day. He knows when he is hungry and tired, I want him to be in tune with his own body signals as this will help him later in life. That book is VERY rigid for a little guy who just wants to sleep when he is tired and eat when he is hungry

I loved Babywise. It definitely worked for us. The biggest things that I got from it were: focus on full feedings rather than snacking, flexible scheduling where you take cues from both the baby and the clock, and putting the baby down while awake and letting them fall asleep in the crib (not all of those are exclusive to Babywise). There is controversy as previously mentioned, but I think the same can be said for many parenting methods out there, its best to familiarize yourself with the criticism and learn how to avoid the pitfalls.
I would say that at 4 years old my son does exhibit the ability for delayed gratification as outlined in the book.

I found this book offensively tough. I didn't use it and did not like the anal-type people that thought it was just great. Thing is, everyone is different and you will learn as you go along on this Motherhood journey. So read it and keep the info for later, but know that it could be totally right or totally wrong for your particular style and your special baby.
Always choose the kindnest, most gentle approach first and see what works for you.

I read it. I thought it was so dangerous, I actually threw the book into the garbage.
The warnings against it are really shocking, the guy who wrote it isn't a medical doctor.
I recommend Baby 411, it has a lot of info on all the different philosophies on raising kids, how to diagnose medical problems, just the practical stuff.

I have it, but never read it all the way through. We just did our own thing with our son, and he's just fine. A friend of ours reccomended the book, and she followed it with her daughter and swears by it.
