Hi please nice answers only. My gorgeous kelpie gave birth to 3 puppies this morning and all are feeding off her and she is walking around getting exercise and pats of congratulations then she will lay down and clean them and feed them again. Does this all sound normal as I have never had puppies before this young. Im so proud of her. Also the Dad comes near her she growls is that normal aswell. Does it sound like she is doing okay?.
I am feeding her more often does she need anything special in her diet?. She eats very well all home cooked meat, vegies, and pasta. Should I separate the dad from her?.

arabiantwilight56-Theres always one isnt there??? Get a life and start answering questions in a nice way. We didnt plan on breeding our girl our other dog (that is a breeder male) smashed thru our glass door and got to her ONCE then he was taken to another paddock for 3 weeks it only takes ONCE and she is doing great as a Mum. Im sure every breeder has a first time and this is mone so cut me some slack. Atleast Im taking care of them and not killing them like some people do.

Well congrats on your new babies.. She sounds to be doing everything ok, you will want to watch her closely to make sure that she is stimulating them all to potty after their meals. And you should weigh them every day to make sure they are gaining some kind of weight. You have to remember what you are feeding your female the pups are now consuming too, a diet to rich in anything is gonna cause your pups to have the runs. When my Bulldog had her babies, I just gave her regular dog food and would beef broth and white rice(cooked of course) in her food, she lapped it right up.. also some yogurt in her food wouldnt hurt anything. She may like the strawberry flavored as mine went crazy for..
good luck with your new little fur babies...

She sounds like she's doing fine as a Mom. Her instincts are right on. Yep, keep the Dad away for awhile. He might not hurt them but Mom is definitely worried. When I've fostered litters I fed the Mom a good puppy food. I don't know how you adjust home cooked meals for a nursing Mom, though.

Sounds like everything is going great. It is best to keep the dad seperated from the pups at least for the first few weeks. Congrats on the new family/

yes, its advised to separate the dad, mama is gonna get him! All sounds normal, she will spend alot of time with the babies, she should be on a good pupy food, this has the vit. & min she needs. people food could upset her belly and she is breast feeding you don't want colicky pups.If she won,t eat her puppy food try mixing it with canned food, mine will eat this way. and yes for now her food intake needs to be increased.
heres a good web-site of course you'll have to scroll down since the site starts at the beginning of mating, but its informative:http://www.faqs.org/faqs/dogs-faq/medical-info/whelping/
congratulations!!
If these pups are ones that need their tails docked, you need to call your vet asap most vets like to do it before 3-4 days

Sounds good, except you shouldn't let dad near her and the pups at all.. She doesn't want him there and it is just stressing her out.

A good quality kibble is all she needs.. You want her to have a well balanced diet. Unless you are positive that the diet you are feeding is well balanced, then she should be fed a quality kibble.

Yep. Sounds normal. She will need extra food while nursing, and do keep the male away from her and the pups for a while.

She is probably just being protective of her babies, if they start fighting I would seperate them but its nothing to worry about now.
