Go to a music store or an online shop and get yourself a copy of "Major and Minor Scales for the Guitar" by Andres Segovia. He was the master, and all of the superstar shredder gods of guitar play scales his way.

Now, it's not easy to figure out. It took me a long time to get the fingering down for the first scale I tried (and I already had earned a bachelor of music degree, which in this case was little help).

Note that most rock leads use a major scale with a flat 7th note--for example in key of C there would be a Bb. That's called a "mixolydian mode" if you want the music major term. Anyway, you probably will want to practice the major scales with a regular seventh and also a flatted seventh.

Once you have the basic fingering down just like Eddie Van Halen does it, then you can study the great rock leads and special techniques by subscribing to Guitar Player magazine. Truly an excellent publication!

as anyone stated it is dependent upon the variety of songs your making a song. Punk and so forth you'll coach a newbie easy methods to play inside an afternoon it is not tough, that is in which persons get alot of the notion that ''bass is convenient''. nevertheless if you happen to cross appear at Jazz/Funk & a reasonable little bit of blues its alot tricker eg of this Lopsy Lu- Stanley Clarke Give It Away-RHCP (potent slides in that tune :P) Amazing Bass Player-Youtube (very nearly a man doing a amazing fairly improvised funk piece) in my opinion i might say gambling bass + making a song is more difficult no longer motive i play bass & am being biased. however you hardly ever see novice guitarists very nearly doing solos & making a song, its consistently simply elementary chords to preserve the tune going. nevertheless bass is not just putting a chord & replacing to the following chord, your arms are continually relocating to play the following observe AND preserve in time with the drummer in any other case it sounds so f*cking unbelievably s*it, at the same time you sing. As Entwhistle from The Who stated (approximately) ''whilst i used to be in studio it used to be convenient, i might list my bass traces & vocals seperately. nevertheless whilst it got here to appearing them are living in combination i could not do it, the notes you sing have got to praise the bass rhythm'' for many who have no idea Entwhistle he's usually viewed the highest Rock Bassist along Geddy Lee (rush) & John Paul Jones (led zep) in phrases of have an effect on & progressive variety. however each are simply as complicated i have noticeable a few big guitarists making a song to a couple unimaginable matters they had been belting out on guitar, i am definite if i idea for two seconds i might identify a Hendrix music in which he does this.

Find a book that will teach you the major and minor penatonic scales. Learn them till you can do them in your sleep.

listen, if your band is playing on a chord, your scale would be 3 frets down. if on A your lead should be in F#. ALWAYS like this.

A Major key, lead on F#

---2----4--5----
-----2 3-5------
----12--4-----
---2---4-----
----2--4--5---
---2--4--5---

just adjust.
try tapping, whammy effects, volume swells, speed picking, palm mutes, two hand tapping, sweep picking...
