If you have some 'brilliant' reason for why almost every scientist in the world is conspiring to lie to you, because deep down they just don't like jesus, for some reason, then why don't you ask your 'thoughtful' questions about evolution in the Science category?

Yeah, I agree. It's probably because some folks determine the validity of science through religious lenses. Some people believe that all "true" science validates the Bible or Koran or whatnot.

By the way: Fisher is insane. Not surprisingly, the Baptist Church and Liberty University founded by Jerry Falwell teach that dinosaur bones are 3,000 years old -- she must be from their brand of non-thought. I hope she is ready to give up vaccinations and high speed internet.

I think it's because they don't want honest scientific answers; they want validation of their beliefs that science (and all of reality, for that matter) is wrong and their beliefs are right.

Fisher: Wow. That computer you're using? Product of science. Vaccines, antibiotics, aspirin, pacemakers, air conditioning, refrigerators - all science. If you think science has done nothing good for us, then maybe you should try living in a cave or mud hut and hunting for your own food, eh?

michael m: 'Macro-evolution' is just many instances of 'micro-evolution' over many generations. The other 'evolutions' you listed are made-up; the only people to use those terms are non-scientist creationists. And since evolution HAS been observed (drosophila & HIV, for instance), it's not without evidence.

Because, they'd get laughed out of that catagory.

EDIT...I'm curious if the fundies who keep claiming evolution isn't science, or that science is a religion, understand that they're just as bad as the christians of Galileo's day. Galileo was branded a heretic for discovering that the earth is not the center of the universe, thus challenging christian dogma. The only problem is...he was right. These poor, superstitious fools refuse to learn from the mistakes of the past, and seem almost obligated to repeat them.

"If (evolution) were science there would not be such opposition to it"

Right. Because when Galileo said the Earth orbits the sun, the Church immediately responded by giving him a medal and publicly congratulating him, right? Muppet!

Questions about evolution keep popping up under Religion and Spirituality because evolution is a religious belief, not a scientific principle.

If it were science, there would not be such opposition to it. If it were science, it would not be defended so dogmatically, even when science disproves it latest variation. If it were science, proofs would not be "created" (Nebraska Man, Peking Man, the "Lucy" composite, the Archeoptrix composite & c).

It is a matter of faith. It masquerades as science in an effort to gain respectability, but it is actually a religious belief.

That's what it comes down to, hey. The lesser folk see science as a threat to their way of life so they see it as an opposing force...and I'm just as speechless as you by Fisher's answer.

The people who ask these kinds of questions do not know the meaning of the word science.

Because they see a relevance to religion but you are right it would be better to questions the merits and short comings of religion in general . I guess they want validation which is not a religious requirement but is one for those who want the truth over religious rules.

Because when a theist asks a very detailed scientific question in the Religion and Spirituality section, it means they don't really want to know the answer.
