Hi c lane Home Theater Systems are becoming more complicated all the time.It is hard to keep up with the changing technology and as soon as you buy the latest Receiver,it has been replaced with a better one .the next day!!!.HDMI [High Definition Multimedia Interface] is a digital interconnect which carries video and audio in the one cable. As far as video quality is concerned it is impossible to say that HDMI is better than analogue[component] .Digital does not always imply better image quality in the case of a video connection. There are significant differences in the way digital and analogue signals are handled that are heavily dependent upon the characteristics of the source device and the display rather than on the type of video in use.HDMI cables are subject to a maximum of about 15 meters.HDMI does not use error correction therefore once information is lost,it's lost for good. Also you never know what is going on inside consumer equiyment and how the different signals are processed, scaled, decoded, converted This applies irrespective of whether we are dealing with pure analogue, analogue and digital,or pure digital And to complicate matters, there is also the problem of equipment setting and system callibration. Impropper settings would not help in producing the best results while different settings on different inputs will lead to different system response to the same signil when applied across different inputs.Receivers have become so complicated by cramming all the latests features into the one unit that people can't set them up from the manual. And it seems to be getting worse.

If you would like an Onkyo Receiver with HDMI and 1080p then the Onkyo TXSR505B at $250 is the cheapest one at the moment. Then you would need to buy speakers. There are better speakers for your budget than the ones that come with the full system you are considering to buy..I will help you to get the best speakers you can afford.

If you could let me know what you intend to do we will continue.

EDIT The system you have will be fine.HDMI is not that important like i mentioned. That is a THX system so the speakers should be ok.

There should have been more answers from the others to advise you but i don't know why there are not more answers to your question.

I was hoping i would hear from you to know your intentions.
