From the city limits: approximately 30 Km. or 19 Miles !
Unless you're planning on taking a loooong hike, you're better off driving there. (Add on another few minutes for the ride from Katamon to the Jerusalem city exit. )
If you are not driving a car, you may travel to Beit Shemesh via Egged bus or the popular Jerusalem-Beit Shemesh sherut (group taxi service) from the Central Bus Station area. There is also a train from Malcha (near the J-m zoo) to Beit Shemesh, but that is usually more for fun than convenience.

Not walking distance for sure. Beit Shemesh is outside of Jerusalem, so not in walking distance. By car it would be about half an hour I think.

I lived in Katamon for about a year and I can tell you it is not in walking distance of Beit Shemesh, if your adventurous you can walk to Har Nov, but Beit Shemesh is really out of simple walking distance.
Now in a car you can easily do it in less than half an hour if traffic is not bad.

I believe the whole country is now more than 60 miles ???
I do not know the city you are seeking. I would seek a map.
Guide/ tour book. FODORS is usually good. Check out for free in book store / borders or your library.
