My grandmother did not speak any english. Growing up we called her memere, the french equivalent to grandma. But I don't remember the proper spelling. I think there is an accent mark on the second 'e' but not sure. Can anyone help? Thank you so much.

Ma mere "my mother"

Et mon père
And my father
Et ma mère
And my mother

So your mother called her "ma mere" because she was her mother, and you called her ma mere because your mother called her ma mere, even though it meant 'my mother', and not 'my grandmother'.

Et mon grand-père
And my grand-father
Et ma grand-mère
And my grand-mother

Ma grand-mère whom you call 'mémé' or 'mamie'.
Mémère (granny) is rather used to discribe an old (fat) woman.

I think it's "grand-mere" an accent on the first "e" on "mere" an accent.
