Didn't Jesus preach love and bless all God's children?

I got this idea because of most of the answers to my "God bless America" propaganda question in this section. Seems that more non theists agree that the slogan should be "God bless humanity", and christians like to bless only themselves.

Well... hundreds of millions of people have been murdered in the name of god. I've never even heard of ONE person being killed in the name of rational skepticism.

That's a misconception, but an understandable one. You see, Christians view life as a temporary place before Heaven (or Hell . . . or Purgatory), whereas atheists view this life as all we have. Pagans are quite a diverse group, but most I've met believe in reincarnation, so their view is most likely 'I'm here now, I'll be here again, I want it to be a nice place when I return' or something along those lines, maybe something to do with their karmic law or their belief that all has a spark of the divine. Pagans and atheists place more on life, seeing as they believe they return to life or only get one chance. That's just speculation and generalization of course, but you get the idea. We all have our reasons for caring about humanity, some reasons are religious and some are not.
Take care.

There's no evidence to prove that, c'mon. I know plenty of pagans and atheists who don't give a damn about anyone but themselves and Christians who love humanity more than life itself.

The problem is the organized structure of Christianity. Organized religion sucks and I hate it (being Christian myself) Organized religion has placed the emphasis on devoting life to God and forgetting the planet and their brothers (directly contradicted in the Bible) for their own gains, like money and power. Real Christians will be out helping their brothers, but they don't have the money so they don't get the press time or political support.

Pagans and Atheists do, do a wonderful job bringing the focus back on our brothers though, and God bless them for restarting the organic, love, humanity movement. More Christians should get back to their roots and get in the public eye.

they don't have something smart to make contributions to a verbal exchange so they motel to rudeness. IMHO, I take it a demonstration of lack of self belief of their own ideals, so they attack others who think of in any different case. i'm no longer asserting ALL atheists, yet I purely observed one question with regards to Witchcraft that had 12 solutions that did no longer relate to the question, and have been down suitable insulting and that they've been all atheists. Its fortunate we pagans are generally thick skinned, through fact we've atheists on one part telling us we are delusional, and on the different we've the christians telling us we are evil hell-certain devil worshippers. you are able to no longer come to a faith and Spirituality communicate board and not anticipate faith to be pronounced or be preached to, its unrealistic.

Because Christians (some) only care about a soul going to heaven. Not the person themselves. Pagans and atheists know that this is our one life and that we should help people now. Not help for when their dead. (Christians think of the after life. Pagans and atheist think of the now life)

Because christians put god first, before humanity. Many christians would also love to see the "end times" start, so that they can revel in the glory of Jesus' reign. That seems to involve killing most of the earth's population. They kind of scare me, honestly...

Yes, agreed. Jesus did preach of humanity. It is a shame, including myself, that Christians in the world today, behave in this way. It needs to change, especially, if we want to be Christ-like.

That statement is presumptuous in the extreme ...not to mention offensive !

Where were your pagans , atheists , agnostics & whoever else you care to mention when the tsunami hit Indonesia a few years ago ?

The first ones into this country rolling their sleeves up & genuinely helping were , guess who ...

Yes , Christian aid volunteers ..the likes of World Vision & other caring organisations ...This in a Muslim environment where local Christians were being persecuted by Muslims !

Show me where your fellow whatevers have ever DONE anything other than sit back pontificating & criticising !

edit...Truth always hurts ...thumbs me down as much as you like ..it doesn't change a thing !

Are you sure they do? Based on your post, it sounds like you're assuming a lot. How do you determine who cares for humanity? Why do you think pagans/atheists do so more than Christians? Is this based on your own subjective experience, or do you have valid data to support your perception?

...Just a few things to think about. You'll probably get better answers if you explain your question a little better.

That's not always true. It has nothing to do with religion or the lack of it. I'm an atheist, and I care about humanity, but many good Christians or spiritualists care about people just as much or more than I do. It's the person, not whether or not they believe in God.

I agree with MyMichelle. Some Christians only want to save themselves.
