My pastor's claim is that every tragedy we experience is just a test from God, or a chance to learn and grow.

But I was wondering: What about a baby who gets sexually abused?

I think that the way god "tests" his people is abuse. Abuse is wrong! No matter who does it.
How can god expect people to do what he says, When all we see is that he doesn't follow the same rules.

Maybe it's a test for the people around the baby, and the abuser (who failed abyssamally!)?

Seriously, I think most Christian thought comes down to the fact that God can't actually do anything. God gives us freewill, and if we want to mess up someone else's life, or our own, we're given free rein. Only other humans can prevent or punish the tragedies.

Christians are just hanging on and holding out for the heavenly rewards at the end of life. Which they will only get if they do good, or sincerely regret their wrong-doing.

It's certainly not a test for the baby. It's just a wrong-headed tragedy. We humans have to take responsibility, and stand up for the weak, the poor and the ill. I think that's in the Bible, too.

I think there is a HUGE difference in being a survivor, using your experience to be a better person, and not letting it destroy you and being told y ou should thank God for it.
Abuse occurs, and the babies and children that are abused are NOT at fault. Evil exists. That is where abuse comes from. Not God.
I'd change churches. Your pastor is a nitwit.

regrettably, you should be waiting to receive some style of reaction like this: "God has different plans for those human beings". have confidence me, i've got seen adequate of it too. we can continuously come off because of the fact the ignorant ones as a results of way that faith, extremely Christianity, is equipped into society. i'm no longer asserting I hate all religious human beings, I definitely have many first rate religious friends, yet while it comes all the way down to the style of documents you in basic terms laid out right here for us. . . there extremely isn't something any religious guy or woman can say in reaction. you could set aside any questions over the beginning of the universe, etc, etc, and there'll nonetheless continuously be such straightforward factors to make on the subject of Christianity.

James 1:13-14 "When under trial, let no one say: “I am being tried by God.” For with evil things God cannot be tried nor does he himself try anyone. 14 But each one is tried by being drawn out and enticed by his own desire"

ask your pastor what date Jesus died? if he didn´t said Abib or Nisan 14 (date of Passover in Luke 22:1-19 , exodus 12:1-5 and 13:1-5) then he didn´t know nothing about the bible.

as you see in the above verse God never send us bad things.

There are tragedies that are just chances for us to learn and grow, but I do not think that each and every one of them is. Some times we just get a bum deal, honestly. As far as your exact example goes, God tells us in the bible that He has specific angels sent to watch over the children. Those angels report back to Him each and every time that anyone hurts anyone of His children. He will deal with those people accordingly.

"Tragedy" and "abuse" can be worlds apart. So, which is it?

I can accept "learn and grow." "Test from God" is really marginal there.

As to your first question, that is bad theology. The Christian obligation is to stop the abuse and help the abused.

Praise someone for standing there and taking a beating. Why not praise Gerry Cooney (I'm showing my age here).

Doesn't work for me. Babies need to learn and grow without abuse.
