Like, do I need a specific kind of lever handle, or is it something in the internal mechanics, or both maybe?

I'm getting an IAC model 87w lever action shotgun (they are similar) for my birthday, so I'd like to know.

Gray W has it right, you'd need to put a large ring on it in order to flip it to cycle the weapon. Remember the rifleman on TV years ago, probably not, way before your time, but he had a large ring lever carbine he flipped the same way.

Define flip cocking the firearm and I may be able to answer your question.
OK I understand what you mean now it is a lever action right?
I do this with my models 94s all the time, it can be done with stock lever easily if the gun has a lot of wear on and is loose. If it is tight with not much slack you might want a big loop lever if you can find one.
Happy hunting/shooting!!

Curiosity has gotten the best of me here..Why would you want to "Rooster" a SHOTGUN in the first place?

Anyway, regardless, you would have to have a Gunsmith make you a large loop Lever and have it braised/welded on, then mount it and refinish it. It wouldn't be very practical or cost effective, but YES it could be done....I personally wouldn't want to be within range when you Rooster it....

You can flip it without any modifications, but a large ring lever makes it easier on your wrist.
