I remember how cool and superior I used to feel to be "against" religious folk.We would taunt and make fun of them and it made us feel like we belonged and that we were special and different. But all the taunting and arrogance never did fill that void I always felt. Finally I just grew up I guess and found out that my superiority complex was really an inferiority complex, who knew?I'm not saying anyone is inferior to anyone else, but deep down inside some of us harbor unworthiness and outwardly it manifests as arrogance and trying to prove you are "somebody" mostly to yourself.Just some thoughts.

Is that why you don't believe any goblins, dragons or pixies exist? just to be cool?

Nobody can prove any gods, much less a specific god, exist. People believe in specific gods because of indoctrination from an early age, tradition, hallucinations, fear of torture (for gods sadistic enough to threaten it) and other similarly illogical reasons. But no gods exist in reality; these are all stories, created for people who were scared of the world long before we understood it. Now we have no more reason for these superstitions.

Actually it is a well known fact that cults look for those people who feel the desire to be special and are looking for a place to belong. Do your own thing, but don't try to put your own twist on everyones beliefs or lack thereof. Religion also has nothing to do with growing up, it has to do with your own spiritual growth and faith. Also I am not against religious folk. Just some thoughts.

Well, it sounds like you're still inferior since you are now redirecting your "coolness" towards atheists. Congrats, you learned nothing of ego.

Most will mock religion because they don't understand it. People normally mock those who think 1+1=3 because God said so.

I mock followers, I dont mock free thinkers, no matter what religion. The minute they say "you have an opinion, I have one" is the moment I know they are out of arguments.

Just because you jumped on a bandwagon of mocking others, doesn't mean that you were truly an atheist.
I'm so not cool, and I'm ok with that. And unlike Christianity, Atheism is usually something people come to alone, not in groups.

Thank you for the insight into your beliefs about yourself... However to imply that you are a representative of an entire group is incorrect... While this is the way you felt it does not represent an entire groupings feelings and should not be presented in a manner that implies such...

Yep. I do it because other people's opinions are so important to me that I have to act this way, not because it's something I truly feel and think after many years of observation and thinking, but only because the opinions of complete strangers is so compelling to me. Does this mean we anti-believers are now more Comformist than even Christians?

I'm not an atheist to be "cool". I'm beyond that. I am an atheist because I have no belief in god. That's it. That is the only reason. If you believe fine. But don't try to tell me why I have no belief in god.
I don't believe in the anti-christ either.

Wow....another person assuming their personal experiences are representative of everyone else's.....a miracle! Really, atheists are atheists for the same reasons that Jews are Jews, it ain't glamor, you only need to look up "history of anti-semitism" to know that for the latter case. We're just following what we (don't) believe, and cannot help but (not) believe.

Funny, growing up as a non-christian around christians, is seemed more like the kids all thought that Christianity was the cool thing, and they got really pissed when I could give real reasons why I thought their religion was wrong.

that was you not them
just because you laughed at people and felt superior doesnt mean all Atheists or anti believers ( as you call them ) do

I am sure their lives are full , just in a different way to yours

You were that way.
Atheists are not. We don't believe in gods because there's no evidence that they exist.

All you're demonstrating with this question is that you were desperate for approval, and now you're a believer in gods. I'm not surprised.

Just some thoughts.
