Guinep (AKA.......Chennette, Akee, Canep, Chenep, Kenip, Mapo, Skinip, Spanish Lime, Tjennét)

this fruit has a rough but thin skin with sweet/tart soft jelly-like flesh. The slightly tart guinep grows in bunches and are usually eaten a small bunch a time.

There are actually two of them.
1-Cashew fruit. Sometimes called a cashew apple. The fruit is tart and tangy and when it falls from the tree a cashew nut is attached to the base of the fruit.
2-Durian. An asian delicacy that is extremely stinky. It smels of rotting flesh and month old gym socks. Hoever, once you get apst the smell the flavor is sweet with a smooth texture. Very different but delicious.

The JuJuBee. It has a crunch and texture of an apple but it tastes kinda nutty and fruity like a date. I planted a tree last fall and it produced about 25 fruit this year. Full grown trees produce so much fruit that the branches sag to the ground. The tree is very hearty and grows fine with little care.

Elderberries - I grew up with them growing in our yard and they make great pies or jam or combine with peaches for anything you'd enjoy peaches with. They may not be entirely rare, but I can't get them at my farm markets or groceries. They're quite labor intensive to pick and prep for use because each fruit is about the size of a BB. But their taste was worth the work!

There is a fruit called Loquat that I love. You can't buy them in the stores...you have to have a loquat tree...And hopefully, a tall roof you can climb on to pick them. They're mostly a big seed in the middle, but the edible part is soooo good!!!

I love champagne grapes - the tiny tiny ones which have that heavenly, zingy, wine taste. :)
