why not??? --- meet in a public place --- let people know where you are and have a coffee and a talk --- if it goes well you have the rest of the day --- make sure you are free and you can have a meal together and get to know each other if all works out --- its really no worse than meeting someone in person for the first time --- best wishes

If you feel that you want to meet him, just make sure it's in a public place and that you have a way to leave immediately in case he is a crazy.
