No Draft, the US no longer institutes the Draft.
All of the brave soldiers over there chose to be there, and I believe the vast majority are proud to be in the US Military.

Has not been a draft since 1975; really ended earlier then that with the cutbacks in the military after pulling out of Vietnam. Males at when they turn 18 years old are still required to register so that if a draft were ever started again the database would be up to date but no actual draft.
The comment on the Reservist during the First Gulf War-Many reserve units were called un for the first gulf war. The unit praised for going through the berms was the Marine Reserve unit here in Knoxville.

There hasn't been militia conscription interior the USA considering 1973. however, all men over the age of 18 are required to sign up in the selective service in case the draft is introduced lower back. there grew to become right into a "lower back door draft" that happened for the duration of the top of the Iraq war. anybody interior the militia are required to serve for 8 years. that many times capacity 2, 4, or 6 years of lively accountability accompanied by capacity of 6, 4, or 2 years interior the guy waiting Reserve (IRR). The IRR capacity infantrymen do not drill or paintings yet they could be recalled to service at any time. some infantrymen have been held longer than their unique lively accountability settlement or recalled from IRR before their 8 years grew to become into up. by way of fact the recruiting objectives for the militia have been raised and the draw down in Iraq has grow to be the lower back door draft has grow to be much less hassle-loose.

Namames.. The "other idiot Bush" didn't start that war buddy. Go read some history.
And, to answer the question, no, there was no draft. There was talk about a draft just to throw it out there as a possibility, but we neither need a draft nor is it good for the military. A draft just subsititutes the quality of the military for a quantity of troops.

No, but we did activate many reservists. These are young men and women that joined the reserves expecting to work two weeks a year and one weekend a month to supplement their income while in college, etc. "Why do we always send the poor?" They were reassured that they would only be called into active duty in time of war, but that had been accepted to mean a bonified emergency. The first Gulf War did not call any reservists to assist. I did six years in the Navy on active duty, but I still believe activating the reserves for this war was not fair to them. They should have only been used in a national crisis. It is the War on Terror, not the Terror War, because it is not a real war. It is sad that as a society we have tolerated the misuse of the word "war" to express ones passion about stopping something (war on drugs, war on poverty, etc...) to the point that a crooked administration was able to misuse the word for military purposes.

No, the United States military is made up of volunteers and has been that way for quite some time now. I hope there is not a draft for a long long time from now or maybe never.
