Alrighty, here's the story.
I met this guy named joshua. He's so sweet and really cute. Im so shy and don't really know how to start up a conversation. Today he asked me if me and my friend to sit with him at lunch, because we both know him. I can't tell if he likes me or my friend. my friend is more experienced with guys but insists she can tell he likes me not her, but i think otherwise because i personally don't think im that pretty even though they always tell me i am. a guy called me ugly a few months ago. i mean i never really thought i was that pretty, and other guys have called me ugly before and it really hurts my self esteem. ( i have medium blonde hair and bluish eyes, freckles. ) He is also a bit shy i think, but it also seems he approaches me more when my friend is around, but he talks to me more than he talks to her. Help anyone? im confused.
( PS ) I really want to him to ask me to homecoming but he's shy and my self esteem is still low, and im afraid he won't ask

You could ask him. He might not ask if he is shy and I'm sure he would like a date.

first off dont ever listen to what other people say about you (unless its compliementary) --- you decide if you are pretty or not (if you dont think you are beautiful how is someone else supposed to think you are??) --- he does think you are pretty and is interested in getting to know you --- keep talking to him --- yours and his shyness will go soon enough if you keep talking and you ask him to go --- if you dont someone else will ---- best wishes
