It happened, one of those pesky cold sores on my lower lip. It's been two years since the last. I've been sick lately so I guess it was time. What can I put on it or do that won't cost me much money as I'm low on funds? Looking to speed it up and keep it as small as possible.

This one sounds odd, but it works, or at least seems to start the healing process. Get a piece of ice, and hold it on the sore as long as you can POSSIBLY stand it. Put something around it so you can hold it there without freezing your fingers off. I don't know why it works, but it definitely seems to start the healing process. Each time I've done this, the sore seems to start healing within 24 hours.

At worst, if it doesn't work for you, it hasn't cost you a penny!

Good luck!

Get a bottle of Lysine (amino acid) at Wal-Mart. $4 or so. Take two, twice a day until the cold sore goes away. You can do this every time you get another sore, too, especially if you have a problem with this. Some antibiotic ointment will soothe the skin near the mouth, and Blistex ointment (about $1) also works to calm the cold sore.

blech.....those salads are nasty. Smoking and drinking are also equally responsible for the high cost of medical costs. Many diseases are connected to those two things, another cause is the sheer amount of illegals that use our ER's instead of clinics and overwhelm the system and do not pay a dime. They use our ambulances for taxi service and do not even think twice. Obesity yes is an issue, but certainly not the main one. Doctors will tell you that 70% of the patients they see are due to self infliction via either diet, smoking, drinking, or activity habits. So you are only telling a small part of the over all story.

There are several natural products that can help. The first is Lysine cream. Quantum makes one and I am sure there are others. You can also use Tea Tree Oil. Of the two, Lysine may work better.

As far as cost, lysine cream is around $6-8. Tea Tree Oil is about $10.

Hope this helps

Abreva is not cheap and does not work for me. I prefer to prevent them by taking L Lysine and a B vitamin complex every day and then I dont have to worry about them coming at all. And they are not very expensive either. Also if you do feel one coming on ice it as soon as possible and often the first few hours and it sometimes does not appear or is much smaller and shorter lasting.

or Herpes Simplex Type I Naturally?

No one mentioned that it might not be a cold sore but it might be herpes simplex which has symtoms that are the same as a cold sore. Get to a doctor or clinic and have it checked because it is VERY contagious.
