The immobiliser built into your cars engine (if it's new enough) will make it very hard to steal without stealing your keys.
That's the only beneficial feature of an alarm (but it probably comes with the car).
Aside from that all you get is an alarm that goes off when the car isn't being stolen annoying everyone.

when I can't remember where I parked my car in a large lot I set off the alarm and it yells "Here Here Here Here!" til I find it. That's the only effective use of the alarm I have found. But if my teen doesn't get up for school on Monday morning after falling asleep on the couch, I may just blast the car alarm instead of the clock radio alarm!

Low jack and On star are the most beneficial. This way the police can find your car anyware in a short period of time.Before it gets striped or leaves the state.

How about the custom kill switch, must be pushed and have key turned to start engine, and the panic alarm can save your life if you need help, or someone suspicious is near you.
