You still owe for what your check bounced on. So yes, I would go to them, and this time take cash.

The above is true unless you have an automatic loan to cover the check, in which case you did not bounce the check, but got an expensive loan at the higher rate of interest. That is a better outcome than actually writing a hot check.

This is my help from Washington, D.C. USA.

You actually SHOULD NOT issue them another check or any other form of payment until you have recieved the original check first. The original check is still legal and can still be collected on. Contact the company and let them know what happened and then give them some options... They can either return the check to you and you will pay in another form, ie cash money order etc, or they can send the check back through your bank.

Call the bank and ask if the check was presented again (business sent check back through your account) and if it cleared. If so, you are done. If not call or visit the business to replace the check with cash or cashiers check or card payment if available. Make sure they are in possession of and willing to return the check to you upon payment. Most businesses have a fee for returned checks, and it's easier to get this waived if you appear in person. Most states have laws against writing bad checks and your business has the right to turn it over to the sheriff for prosecution, so be nice....

You have to deposit a lot more money to your checking account so that your check will not bounce one more time. You have to send a "sorry letter" to the business that you issue a check that bounced for formality.

If you and the bank are straight, then issue another check to the people as payment, and send a short note of explanation and apology.
