Like...Christians believe in a man walking on water, rising up to heaven, heaven, talking snakes...etc.

But for Buddhists?

I can tell you all the myths and legends surrounding the life of Buddha, but real Buddhist do not waste time in believing that stuff, as another poster said the purpose is to achieve a state of a fully realized human being. And I don't think believing or not believing in "Blue Dragons" or "Harry Potter" can help with that, as a matter of fact, believing those tales can actually obstruct your path because you're creating a "veil" of reality, and your perception, your connection with this reality is very unique and that connection is something that has even more value than the experience of your master (including the Buddha)

The master's perception is like a map, but in the end it's you the seeker, who has to actually walk the path, experience the ultimate truth, because truth (relative to each being) is not to be believed but to be experienced. So in the end, as part of the process you create your own path.

Buddha himself is remembered to have said "Do not believe anything, question everything, including what I am saying to you right now" That powerful statement, just gets rid of politics, dogma and manipulations that affects mainstream organized religions nowadays.

You can find the same idea in the Tao, "Do not take anything so seriously, including the Tao".

cheers.
