you can have any type of carpet that you want. however, i can tell you the most durable style is called Frieze ( California shag, short shag) the reason this is so durable is because the fiber is highly twisted and then heat set. the best type of fiber is nylon. preferably a branded nylon like stainmaster or weardated. these guy have stain and soil resistance that is chemically built into the fiber.
as far as color, if your walls are lighter then go dark complimentary color. if walls are darker then go lighter on the the floor.
keep in mind the theme of your room when looking at samples, then makes sure you take the samples home.
lighting will change the way the color looks. try to have the walls the color you want, before picking out the carpet.
for a lounge type room, hardwood could make it hollow and cold.
Make sure you use an 8# pad, it's the one that helps the carpet wear the best. anything lower would cause your carpet to wearout too fast.

Hey Benji....I love a wood floor with a shag throw....deep reddish floors with a cream throw and cream couch are very contemporary, and you can create different feel for the room with accents....
We recently remodeled our house and our sun room has light bamboo floors and a neutral olive green walls. Originally we had rattan looking furniture which was very sunroomy looking, but then we changed it for RED Poang Chairs (from IKEA) and some red and lime green throw rugs & pillows. It looks very vibrant and contemporary, and the beauty is that when we get tired of the red chairs, it's not that expensive to purchase new upholstery for them.
