Our Navy does provide assistance to our ground troops and there are Sailors on ground. You probably didn't know that but I think its 64 Sailors have perished in this war and there are numerous Sailors on ground now at this war. One of which is my hero which happens to be Navy Baby !!! Research buddy before you rant on and on. But thats your right, thanks to my hubby and his brothers and sisters of our forces.

There are many jobs in the navy. Most jobs are on ships and submarines. On a ship out at sea, there is much to do. Maintenance is constantly being done to keep the ship running. Everybody has a job to do from running the engines, cooking, laundry, aircraft maintenance, parts manufacturing, ships need constant cleaning and painting. In your off time, there are gyms to work out in, big ships allow jogging, and most ships have either close circuit TV or satellite. And there is even internet. If space allows, many sailor bring their musical instruments and form bands. There are even college teacher’s onboard long cruises to help you get your degree. Sailors can also be on the ground as security forces, Seabee construction units, marine force corpsman (medic) or special warfare such as Navy SEALS. A ship can fight the enemy by many methods. Gathering Intel, firing guns for gunfire support (beach bombardment), anit-submarine warfare, firing land attack missiles like the tomahawks. Or by launching carrier based aircraft or amphibious troops.
People die in the navy, not just from enemy action, but from accidents on ships also. Ships are inherently dangerous environment, and a person must be alert to those dangers. Especially on the flight deck!

It depends on what a sailor's job is. I was an engineer, so I worked on various types of equipment including air conditioning and refrigeration units, distilling plants that make fresh water out of seawater, hydraulic units used to steer the ship, aircompressors, diesel engines, and the main propulsion turbines that drove the ship.

There are sailors that operate everything on the ship, from weapons to laundry.

Ships will spend alot of time at sea, weeks at a time between ports.

The weapons a ship carries varies to the type of ship, from guns to missiles to torpedoes.

Unfortunately, many sailors have been killed at sea, especially during the vicious battles during the Second World War.
